Nike is one of the largest, most successful clothing brands and their marketing strategies and previous ad campaigns have been some of the most influential in history. With the new product release of the Nike Dunk’s in vintage aged navy, I created a photo realistic illustration of the product that I then utilized across a variety of different marketing mediums (billboard, poster and social media ad). The central goal of this campaign was to embody a similar advertising aesthetic to Nike in the 1990’s, in order to mimic how this new product version is modeled after their most popular shoe during this era.

  • Both men and women, ages 16-35 who enjoy streetwear fashion and the vintage 1990’s aesthetic. Individuals who are fans of Nike products, creative marketing campaigns or digital product art.

  • The vintage Nike print advertisements from the 1990’s inspired me to create a new marketing campaign that channels this vintage sentiment while providing a unique, innovative edge by utilizing the product illustration rather than studio photography. With the new product release of a vintage Nike shoe, I felt that this would be the perfect opportunity to design a campaign that played off of the original marketing debut by incorporating texture and simple yet unique typographical layouts.

  • The objective of this project was to design a photo realistic product illustration of your choice, and then to utilize this illustration in a multi-media advertising campaign. The goal of this campaign is to convey the aesthetic of Nike in the 1990’s through a plethora of marketing mediums that are on par with Nike’s impeccable advertising portfolio. In order to appeal to my demographic and to evoke this aesthetic sentiment, these advertisements need to be unique, simple, textured, and recognizably bold.

  • After researching the advertising and product history of Nike shoes, I realized that the 1990’s had a very specific aesthetic when it came to both print and digital advertisements and products. In order to convey quickly and easily that this new launch is a remake of a vintage color-way, I wanted to channel some aspects of this advertising era in order to visually represent both this era and the brand as a whole.

  • The layouts all utilize a simplicity in both color and typography that creates the feeling of a vintage 1990’s advertisement. The use of texture, in addition to lighting adjustment and arrangement all contribute to this aesthetic as well. I think that by channeling some of the features of real vintage 1990’s Nike advertisements, I was able to capture this essence in order to promote the new launch in a way that fully represents the product. I decided to use Futura Condensed ExtraBold typeface in order to seamlessly integrate these ads into the company’s existing repertoire, as this is their classic typeface and was also the typeface featured in the 1990’s campaign mentioned above.
